POLITICS 101

Politics 101: The sole purpose of government is to create problems.

OK, boys and girls, think about it. Why would our own government create problems for us? Because in a problem-solving society like ours, a lack of problems will not justify a centralized government. Let's go a step farther... not only does government create problems, it is bound and determined to never solve them! If a problem were ever solved, the bureaucracy created to solve it could be dismantled, laying off thousands of bureaucrats in our midst. I personally would rather my taxes pay unemployment compensation to them for a year instead of their overpaid lifetime positions that drain us until death.

Now, I've just made what some will call an outrageous statement, but let's look at a few examples:

1. 1964's Great Society was established by LBJ to "eliminate poverty as we know it." 39 years and $1.6 TRILLION later, do we still have poverty in the U.S. of A? Yes, but the poverty level for a family of 4 is now determined to be $18,900. Anyone earning $19K in 1964 was on easy street, but inflation (to be covered in 110) has now made $19K a paltry income in 2003. So, I guess "poverty as we know it" is gone?

2. The "war on drugs" has obviously been won, right? (Just say NO)

3. Medicare that started as a supplemental aide to the elderly has now mushroomed into the largest corrupt, mismanaged screw-up agency ever. But wait! Let's add on a drug benefit and shoot for national bankruptcy.

4. Did that little illegal immigration problem get taken care of? Habla español? No? Porqúe?

In its ever-reaching appetite to uncover more problems to solve, the government relies on junk science and vocal special interest groups to supply us with perceived problems. Let's look at the environmental groups as an example. The same chicken littles that warn us of global warming were warning us of the next ice age back in the 1970's. Remember? Probably not. The government and the established media know we have a short attention span and nothing entertains like the next crisis (problem). All environmental alerts are worded to cover their tracks if proven wrong, but still have impact:

- Noise from 2 strokes MAY disrupt the coyote's lifestyle.
- Use of OHVs COULD lead to massive erosion of our pristine deserts.
- Pollution from bikes MIGHT cause asthma in ravens.
- Here's one that's KNOWN to be true: MTBE, the additive to CA gasoline mandated by EPA regulations has PROVEN to POLLUTE ground water tables, endangering the HEALTH of our citizens. Here's an example of a coveted 101 double / double... a solution to a problem that causes a larger problem! And we will, of course, need more regulation, etc. to solve it!

The Internet played a big role in the breakup of the USSR by supplying information to the populace that refuted the party propaganda of Provda. We're experiencing the same thing and the environmentalists are losing some of their clout as actual science is becoming available on the Internet. Check out www.juliansimon.org for sensible answers to perceived enviro problems and common sense analysis of the next crisis.

As always, give it some thought,

POLITICS 104 & 105

104: Money is the lifeblood of politics

105: A politician is only successful if re-elected

"People see only what they are prepared to see"...Ralph Waldo Emerson

Where do the vast majority of Americans learn of each day's events that effect their lives? Radio, TV, and newspapers, right? Who determines "All the news that is fit to print, hear, or see?" Editors and station managers. The average citizen must be entertained to stay tuned to a news report. Hence the glut of news promos: "CRAZED CHILD MOLESTER LOOSE IN LEISURE WORLD, FILM AT 11." This is a sad commentary on the populace (electorate) of this great nation, but true. The average family spends more time on their weekly shopping list than deciding who to support in the next election?

Who do they vote for? The candidate that presents the best ads and sound bites that appeal to their comfort zones. How does a candidate get his/her message out to the voters? MONEY buys ads and influences sound bites. Eighty to ninety percent of our elected officials have a law background. If they are defeated, they have to return to the shark tank and compete against the other predators. It's hard out there in the real world without perks, per diem, and pensions with COLAs.

So how does a politician insure success? By amassing a campaign fund greater than the opponent's and using it wisely buying proven slick producers to make the ads. The ads do not promote a platform or agenda, just that he's the Bozo to lead us and the opponent may be a date rapist, bent on destroying the ecology and of questionable lineage. The average American may support said candidate through contributions after viewing or reading those slick ads, but the real bucks come from alliances with major organizations. How? By promising legislation or support for projects held dear by said organizations.

Dian Feinstein managed to push through The Desert Protection Act (S.21) at the eleventh hour of the 1994 Senate session. While running for re-election, do you recall any coverage of its passage and the effects it would have on a lagging California economy in the mainstream media? The editors and station managers didn't bother to inform anyone. Why? DiFi formed an alliance with organizations that "demand the sacrifice of people upon the alter of environmental purity." Who will benefit from such a far-reaching Act? (Refer to Politics 102 & 103). One beneficiary of S.21 may be the Cattelus Group, the real estate arm of the Southern Pacific Railroad (holder of thousands of acres of desert right-of-way corridors) when the federal government swaps land with proven gold reserves for their corridors. It's probably just coincidence that Cattelus was a major contributor to DiFi's campaign.

Many fear what appears to be the absence of boundaries, conscience, and morals in society today. Example: Bill Clinton bemoans the fact that $25 million was spent during the 1972 election for TV ads, but $440 million was needed in 1996, causing him and Al Gore to circumvent the law for contributions.

Refer to Politics 101: The next declared problem will be the need for campaign reform. Think about this...They'd have to regulate themselves, right? It is a rare politician that will put the long-term national interest ahead of his/her own interest of incumbency. Ain't gonna happen: that shark tank is not regulated by the Coastal Commission...yet.

POLITICS 106

106: A dependent class must be established to ratify government programs

"Those that would give up liberty for a small sense of security deserve not liberty nor security" ...Benjamin Franklin

OK, boys and girls, we all know at least one poor soul that just can't make it and is doomed to financial hardship, right? If his ship ever comes in, he'll be at the airport to catch it. Two generations ago he would go job to job as a laborer, pick up work after hours and maybe get charity from a local church (food and clothing) to help his family. He would reciprocate with fix-it work for the parishioners and be a productive member of the community. His kids may work part time to help make ends meet, learning responsibility at an early age.

The kids got an education (encouraged by the parents) to elevate their "lot in life." Thousands of emigrant families fit into this scenario with the added burden of a language barrier. Today a large percentage of millionaires and CEOs of multinational companies came from dirt farming/mine digging/laundry washing/share cropping/trash collecting/manual labor roots and were determined to break out of the cycle with their parents' blessings.

Times have changed. Today our poor soul will realize if he runs from his responsibilities (hits the road) his wife and three kids will qualify for AFDC, become wards of the state and be provided for better than he could. So he drops out and the family becomes bonafide members of the dependent class. The kids get subsidized rent and food stamps in place of a father. If the oldest girl becomes pregnant, the monthly stipend will increase due to the extra dependent. Anything wrong with the state paying kids to have babies?

Recipients of welfare don't have the personal tools to survive the harsh realities of the real world, right? WRONG! 45% of Orange County recipients cheated on their applications to illegally obtain aid checks and food stamps, according to a recent study! Refer to 103: Welfare recipients receive only 30% of the monies allocated for their survival! Subtract the 45% fraudulent claims and we find that 16.5% of the billions spent annually makes its way to the families sired by poor souls, 13.5% to the slackers smart enough to beat the system, and 70% to our dear beloved bureaucrats that know what's best for us!

Why is the illegal alien situation that California and other border states face not recognized by the federal government? Each wetback needing medical attention adds to the dependent class (106) = so more taxes are needed (101) = so let's ease the process of becoming US citizens and register them to vote (105). Step by step, bureaucrats are building a nation dependent on the increasing dole, void of responsibility for one's actions.

We've raised four children, exposing them to monthly TWMC outings. A kid quickly learns that to enjoy a ride he/she has to have gas, spare plug, water, a good chain, etc to lessen the chance of a breakdown. The desert is fantastic when you're moving, but downright miserable when you're stuck for 3-4 hours waiting for a tow back to camp when the sun is going down! The desert is a great working classroom for kids, teaching responsibility first-hand. But two environmental bimbos in the US Senate are trying their damnedest to eliminate the desert experience we all enjoy.

Think about it...

POLITICS 107

107: A confiscatory agency is needed to enforce social engineering

There are 2 ways to order society:

1. Voluntary: by peaceful interaction of individuals, organizations and associations, i.e. members of TWMC, other clubs and the AMA perpetuating the sport of Enduros.

2. Coercion: using the mechanisms of the state laws, regulations and TAXES.

If the powers that be want to encourage an activity, a tax break will be awarded those citizens who engage in said activity (home mortgage deductions or 104: donating a portion of your "refund" to a political party). If motorcycles were tax deductible, how many bikes would be in your garage right now?

In the United States you are regarded as "innocent until proven guilty," putting the burden of proof on the prosecutor. But if a pencil-neck IRS clerk suspects you of cutting corners while auditing your tax return, your wages, property and bank accounts can be frozen or confiscated until you spend the proper resources to prove your innocence in a tax court. The IRS is "above the law" intimidating citizens by being the largest unaccountable bureaucracy of them all.

Environmentalists owned the Democrat-controlled congress for thirty years until the 1994 shakeup. Your typical environmentalist drives a volkswagon bus, eats tofu, whines a lot and can't tolerate people having fun. Especially motorized recreationists. Why does the environmental movement have such a grip on government policies? Think about it...the Blunt-nosed lizard protecting mentality is perfect for politics:

101: Big problem: "dirt bikes chase tortoises and destroy our beloved pristine desert."

102: Who enthroned the Sierra Club as the national spokesman for outdoor activities? Their dogma is considered gospel, requiring no burden of proof.

103: Environmental Protection Agency. Endangered Species Act. Think of any others?

104: Their candidates automatically receive donations from members, annual dues.

105: Influence in the form of voting blocks to support favorable candidates.

106: Let's stretch a little here...If you're a bureaucrat employed by a regulatory agency that manufactures nothing but hardship for the producers of the country, aren't you really a paid member of the dependent class?

107: Import taxes, green stickie fees, permits, registrations, aren't these actually recreation taxes?

DiFi and her bimbo sidekick managed to pass S.21 in the Senate on the last day of the 1994 session by a vote of 61-38. S.21 locked out between 6.5 and 8.5 million acres of SoCal desert "wilderness" that many of us have ridden for years. There were senators from the east coast determining where we can no longer ride. Do you realize there are 6 states with less total acreage than S.21 locked up? What's wrong with this picture? Think about it...

POLITICS 108

108: The Judiciary is needed to justify social engineering

In Politics 101-107 we've examined the different aspects of government that work together to ensure perpetual growth. Let's examine the judiciary, responsible for determining the constitutionality of laws enacted that frame our behavior. Some feel the U.S. Constitution is "carved in stone," providing orderly means of conducting our affairs, while others claim it to be a "living document" constantly upgrading interpretation as the nation progresses.

The President appoints replacements to the Supreme Court as well as hundreds of district and circuit court judges. The interpretation of federal law will therefore always be changing, reflecting the tenants of the White House.

Recently with Prop 209 the electorate of California struck down government sanctioned racism only to have it stopped by a circuit judge in San Francisco with ACLU and NAACP ties, appointed by the current occupant of the White House (who promised the most ethical administration ever). Are you starting to see where the balance of power lies? The third branch must justify the actions of the other two (executive and legislative). Remember when Jerry Brown appointed Rose Bird to the California Supreme Court? Balance of power to further his own socialistic agenda? You bet!

The founders of the nation were extraordinary individuals, tired of England's tyranny, and longing to be free. They penned an absolute masterpiece document insuring individual freedoms and opportunity for all citizens. They incorporated checks and balances to protect those rights. Sadly, any undoing of those rights can only come from within, with changing interpretation of the Constitution.

Examples:

1. You have the right to bear arms...after a 2-week waiting period.

2. You are guaranteed life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness unless you have a partial birth day.

3. The right to own property and do with it what you wish is still honored unless a kangaroo rat is sighted nearby or, after a rain storm, a bureaucrat thinks your land has become a natural wetlands...and heaven help you if an environmentalist finds what looks like a spotted owl feather on your property!

OK, boys and girls, take heart! Recently Justice A. Scalia ruled that access to the courts is not only for environmentalists. Laws must protect endangered species but must also avoid needless economic dislocation produced by bureaucrats pursuing their environmental objectives! Since 1973 the pucker bush huggers have enjoyed a one-way path through our court system (refer to 107 examples) but maybe...just maybe...after 24 years, a two-way road is emerging...

The only guarantee of freedom comes from vigilance. How vigilant are you? Think about it...

POLITICS 109

109: Policing Agencies are created to protect 101-108

Let's break down the word politics...

Poly: (Gr) combining form: much, many

tics: wingless bloodsucking insects, parasites

parasite: one who clings to another for personal advantage

Government is basically a parasite with an ever-growing appetite for blood (taxes). It takes as much blood as possible without letting the host (taxpayer) die, because that would end the supply, if the host dies, the jig is up.

"Politicians are interested in people. Not that this is always a virtue, fleas are interested in dogs" ...P.J. O'Rourke

The central function of government is to provide protection of life and property. Yet, increasingly it is unable to do even this much. Instead government has become a protection racket, extracting taxes from its citizens. If it delivered reliable protection at a reasonable price, we would all feel better.

The fourth amendment's protection from unreasonable search and seizure is rendered meaningless as ATF, DEA, EPA, FBI, FDA and IRS agents can ransack anyone's home or office. NO? Ever hear of a place called Ruby Ridge? How about Waco? Federal, state and local taxes now consume over 35% of our gross domestic product (economics jargon) which is a greater burden than that of serfs bound to the land, master and King in medieval Europe!

And if you don't ante up, one of the afore-mentioned agencies will eventually visit you. "Hi, I'm from the government and I'm here to help you..."

"The only certainties are death and taxes." "If it moves, tax it. If it stops, tax it again." Socialize: to subject to government ownership or CONTROL. Environmentalism: government CONTROL of the lands. Do you see where we're headed here? The average taxpayer looks at their situation and can't believe the scope and depth of governmental intervention into our daily lives. When did it get so bad? Answer: it happened incrementally - a little bit here, a little there. Remember Khrushchev's famous quote on how Russia would topple the U.S.? "We take two steps forward, one back."

Nation-wide labor union membership is less than 15% of the total workforce, its lowest rate since post WWII. But guess what? 70-80% of union members are now government employees! Remember when they were referred to as Civil Servants? Try to dismiss the incompetent or burned-out ones now! (102, 103, 106)

"Government of the people, for the people, and by the people" means the U. S. of A. is controlled by its citizens, right? WRONG! We suffer from government by employees, with no incentives to reduce the costs of government or the prices the citizens are charged. Employees are concerned for their own pay checks. When there is strong resistance to higher taxes, governments controlled by employees won't cut salaries and will allow costs to exceed revenues, building chronic deficits. It simply means we'll pay more for less services each successive year. Think about it...

"There is nothing as permanent as a temporary government program" ...Milton Friedman

OK, boys and girls, our Politics Primer is complete: nine sections. Next month we'll look at examples that prove our 101-109 theories.

Yours in political correctness,

CUBBY

POLITICS = POWER

"America is a country many of us are finding increasingly difficult to recognize"...T.J. Forstinann

We now have a weenie wagger in the White House that may be the best politician this country has ever produced. He is protected by a "staff' of 100+ lawyers that stonewall, obfuscate and protect him from responsibility for his own actions and we pay the protection costs.

Politics affords the power to redistribute the nation's wealth by trying to micro-manage a "free market economy." 107 example: Barber Bob cuts Barber Bill's hair 10 times a year for $10. Bill reciprocates, cutting Bob's hair 10 times x$10. No gain here but they both must declare gross incomes of $100. After claiming "deductions" for overhead, let's say they net $50 each and are both in the 20% tax bracket. The government gets $20 in income taxes and $13.50 for SSI, Medicare, etc. and Bob and Bill get haircuts. Bureaucrats bemoan the "underground economy" because it allows people to evade their taxing scams.

102, 103: Clinton declares "the era of big government is over" while Hillary tries to socialize the health industry!

101, 103: EPA head Carol Browner (hand picked by Al Gore) convinces Bubba that stricter air standards are needed "for the children." If his executive order survives, the cost of every item in this country will rise.

102: 150+ DMV clerks will be prosecuted for taking bribes to grant licenses to illegal aliens, proving that some bureaucrats do understand the laws of supply and demand!

Let's try to defend 101-109 by manipulating the language: Let's call mandatory redistribution...Sharing. Describe coercion as compassion. Welfare BENEFITS. Tell citizens you "feel their pain" while taxing them up the wazoo. Give tax breaks to people who don't pay taxes. Politics of meaning (say what?). Socialism is old and ugly, statism is new and PC. It takes a village. Can anyone define "soft" money? Let's impute the value of your house. And no matter what boondoggle scheme we're trying to sneak past the public, do it "for the children!"

101, 104, 107: Tobacco is now declared the worst menace facing our nation but let's not ban this deadly substance because it generates huge tax revenues.

102, 104, 108: Nathan Landow, Al Gore's fund raiser, attempts to extort big bucks from Oklahoma's Cheyenne-Arapaho tribes over their ancestral lands.

104, 105: We know the Clinton/Gore machine broke every law in the books amassing their campaign war chest that enabled them to retain POWER. Can you imagine the limited riding opportunities we'll have after 2000 if the pant-load author of "Earth in the Balance" is elected to the oval office? Think about it....

We will conclude this series next month with a few more examples of gambling, drugs and sex. Yours in political correctness for the welfare of our children...

POLITICS FINALE

OK, boys and girls, let's look into some vices...

Gambling: Indian tribes on reservations live in abject poverty with high unemployment as most reservations are far from industry, high alcohol abuse from low self worth and an average income of $6000 per year. Some tribes have used their sovereignty to establish gambling casinos, enjoyed success, affording jobs and good revenue into the tribes' coffers.

Everyone wins, right? Not exactly. Increasingly, state governments are trying to cut back or cancel tribal casinos on moral grounds. 103,106: As people leave the welfare rolls, it's hard to justify all that AFDC money. 107: In a cash business, it's impossible to tax the winners! Remember Barbers Bob and Bill? A poker game is the same zero-sum situation. On any night losses equal winnings.

The state wants their 30% of the action!

Sex: The world's oldest profession is illegal outside of Nevada. Immoral and impossible to control disease, right? Wrong. No disease in Nevada to speak of because it's a business, and the girls are monitored closely. 107: Another cash and carry business... how do you tax them?

Drugs: Who, as a group, are the wealthiest people in the world? Drug lords. Profits from cocaine in the U.S. alone are estimated at $95 BILLION/year. This is more than the total of all law enforcement budgets in the country. 102,104: Money buys influence and protection. We're not just talking gangs here... how about armies? Who is most against legalizing drugs? Drug lords don't want an open market=competition=lower prices and profits.

Victimology: 101, 103, 105, 106: Socialists used to say that wealth was created by factory workers and taken from them by owners. So the need to redistribute the wealth was set in motion (103, 107). But America is now a service economy as most manufacturing has left the country for cheaper foreign labor. Despite free education and a cornucopia of aid programs, many of the poor have chosen laziness and are unskilled for today's service/information workforce. So they are no longer exploited by the rich, they are poor because of discrimination by the privileged. 101: Ever notice how often words like racism, hatred, homophobic, angry white male, radical, benefit the rich and religious right are muttered on news programs? Class warfare whether real or imagined is a great 101 topic to justify the need for more government. Think about it...

Due to the mobile technology of the information age, taxpayers no longer have to live near business centers. With a modem and $1500 computer, a broker can convert the den of a Nebraska farmhouse into a high tech office like the high rent/high taxed one he used to rent on Wall Street. A salesman with a laptop can stay on the road and never have to visit the home office. In the future, when money can be earned and spent anywhere electronically, states that charge too much will drive their best taxpayers to another state.

The same technology that knocked out Communism will eventually drop the democratic welfare state we have all grown to love. That will be true welfare reform! 101: big problem... how many victims will there be then?

I hope these little discussions on politics will help you look for ulterior motives when the next government program is being discussed (103). And remember, we must "do it for the children." Never mention the fact that the children will be in debt to their ears because of 101 - 109 policies over the past 40 years.

See you in the dezert,

CUBBY

THE GREAT GLOBAL WARMING SCAM

OK, Boys and Girls, let's review Politics 101: The sole purpose of government is to create problems. In a problem solving society, a lack of problems will not justify the concept of a centralized government...Cubby. Or, stated another way... "Politicians acquire power by promising to defend us against threats. Any threat will do - communism, unemployment, global warming, global cooling, global freeze drying. Most of politics is about the cultivation of threats. A healthy government is one with a big inventory of threats, and a threat shortage is a disaster to be avoided at all costs." Early Warning Report 3 - 4/98 by Richard Maybury.

We've all heard the talking suits elude to the depletion of the ozone layer and the impending dangers of global warming in the news, right? Last year the Union of Concerned Scientists - UCS, signed up 1558 scientists urging the federal government to take action on global warming. Al Pantload Gore took this "consensus of the scientist community" to the Global Warming Summit in Kyoto, Japan last December and helped design the world-wide treaty that is waiting ratification by the U.S. Senate. The treaty basically penalizes industrial nations that produce carbon dioxide by burning fuels while giving underdeveloped nations exemptions from lowering emissions. If ratified by the Senate, life as we know it will come to a screeching halt!

Well, guess what? Turns out the UCS is an environmental alarmist group with ties to the beloved Sierra Club. They are opposed to refrigeration systems, sport utility vehicles, logging, gun ownership and fuel-bearing transport. And their champions are Al Gore and two environmental bimbos in California!

Tax-financed subsidies for non-defense related scientific studies have escalated to $33 BILLION per year. If you were a research scientist depending on government grants to support your research, wouldn't you be compelled to issue findings that would increase that welfare channel? Hence the 1558 global warming alarmists that have offered no documented data to back up the enviro-warnings parroted by the talking suits! How many times must we hear reports like "ORV noise MAY be detrimental to the mating habits of the desert tortoise?" I say fine. They lose the mood on the weekends when I'm riding near their habitat. Come out Monday, relax on Tuesday, meet a foxy tortoise on Wednesday and boink your brains out on Thursday-Friday (but don't smoke a cigarette afterward). Then get stressed out over the weekend if it gets noisy again.

Now let's talk about a real consensus. ACCESS TO ENERGY, a pro-science, pro-free enterprise, pro-technology newsletter recently circulated a petition throughout the scientific community that stated...

"We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind."

"There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth."

During the first six weeks, 16,900 scientists and engineers signed on to support the petition. So much for the "consensus of the scientific community" that sent the Pantload to Kyoto! Through clever use of the press and misrepresentations, the Warmers and their "consensus" have been winning the public debate. Let me know if any of you ever see a news report on the real consensus of the scientific community. If the enviro-alarmists get their way, you'd better buy postcards on your next trip through Randsburg, cuz that's as close as you're gonna get to the dezert after gas rationing returns to SoCal! Ronald Bailey wrote in the Wall Street Journal 12/15/97: The Clinton administration plans to implement the Kyoto global warming treaty whether or not it is ratified by the United States Senate. Senate refusal to ratify will just be the first in many actions that will be necessary to prevent energy rationing. The administration will use our tax money to try to ration our energy, and we will use our after-tax income to try to stop them.

In another WSJ article by Michael Fumento 4/2/98: The EPA is on another pogrom against insecticides. Insecticide bans generally tend to drive up food costs, lower consumption of healthful foods, and increase the spread of disease. Then other branches of the government demand more money to protect us from the resulting government-created ill health. Here is a perfect politics 103/106 example!

If the meager resources of TWMC can uncover the above information, why can't the major news outlets report it? Laziness? Hidden agendas? Remember, POLITICS = POWER. I fear Mr. Bailey is right on the money and we'd better buckle up for the ride!

Hey, think about it...

ELECTION REVIEW

"If life were logical, it is men who would ride sidesaddle." ...Perk Carlson

Politics 104-105: Thank goodness our favorite environmental bimbo was re-elected to the U.S. Senate. If the inscrutable Matt Fong won, our kids would soon be drinking radioactive water and glowing in the dark. But those pesky Redskins are free to pollute their ancestral lands, not keeping them pristine like Las Vegas and Tahoe.

Politics 103: Meathead pulled off the coup of a lifetime...Smokers will now pay an added 50 cent per pack tax in California FOR THE CHILDREN. OK, boys and girls, let's do some quick #s:

Adult population of California (Estimate) 20,000,000

Adults who smoke 18.4% (statistic) 3,680,000

Now let's assume all smokers average one pack a day: 3680K x .50 = $1,840,000.00 per day into the state's coffers, $671,600,000.00 per year FOR THE CHILDREN. Those that voted yes on Prop 10, please consider this: Do you ever eat chips, fast food, cookies, ice cream, or junk food? Are you overweight? Well friends, Prop 10's passage just enabled the social engineers to hit your habits next FOR THE CHILDREN. The number of governmental agencies has doubled in ten years. For every law passed by Congress, 18 new regulations are put on the books by unelected bureaucrats. Prop 10 adds a few more layers.

People with short memories allow history to repeat itself. When Moonbeam Brown was governor, property taxes tripled and brought on the Prop 13 revolution and 16 years of Republican governors to counter the Democratic legislators. Now Moonbeam's chief administrator is at the helm with a Democratic Senate and Assembly. If you can still get out, you may want to give it some thought! Two years from now some people will say "Why is it so hard to breathe with less second hand smoke in the air?" It might be Gray Davis' minions sitting on your chest! Think about it...

Yours in political correctness FOR THE CHILDREN.

IT'S ONLY UNETHICAL IF YOU GET CAUGHT

OK, boys and girls, let's review... remember we mentioned Monica as the best thing Clinton could have hoped for, taking Chinese campaign money off the front pages? Remember Bill's operatives saturating TV demonizing Ken Starr's $40M investigation? Then Slick took his cabinet for a week to China at a cost of $50+M?

In China he attended services at a State Controlled church, visited a SC village where SC leaders are selected in SC elections and talked about developing democracy!

Chinese leaders are trained to think 50-100 years ahead. American politicians think only about the next election.

When Slick bombed Iraq, even the media mused about the "wag the dog" theory, remember? Let's look a little deeper at events the media failed to stress:
Date Event Reaction
6/30/98 Judge Wright makes public Bill's perjures deposition in the Paula Jones case. A U.S. F-16 jet fires on a Iraq radar site.
8/20/98 Monica testifies before grand jury, following Bill and his "improper relationship" talk. Clinton orders a missile attack on "terrorist facilities" in Sudan and Afganistan.
11/13/98 Clinton agrees to settle the lawsuit with Jones for a whopping $850,000. Clinton orders air attack against Iraq, then aborts mission after planes are in the air.
12/16/98 The House is poised to impeach William Jefferson Clinton. Clinton orders a massive bombardment of Iraq.
12/19/98 Clinton is impeached. The bombing of Iraq is declared a success and the operation is ended.
03/23/98 The House "Chinagate" report is scheduled to be released. Air strikes begin in Kosovo as we must save the children and stop the ethnic cleansing.

The odds of these events being mere coincidence are as high as the stain on Monica's dress being O.J.'s dna. Clinton was re-elected with 46% of the popular vote on a 30% turnout day = 13.8% of eligible voters returned the weinie wagger to office. If that isn't voter apathy, what is? What's wrong with this picture?

"Money is the barometer of a society's virtue. When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion... when you see that in order to produce, you need permission from men who produce nothing... when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors... when you see that men get richer by graft against you... when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice... you know that your society is doomed." Ayn Rand

"I resolve not to adopt the tactics of Republicans and Democrats. They use character assassination, evasions, and intimidation because they have no real benefits to offer Americans. We, on the other hand, are offering to set people free - and so we can win simply by focusing on the better life our proposals will bring." Who said it?

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

3 years ago we did a politics primer to help understand the machinations of our self-appointed ruling class: Government. Some thought the effort cynical, but let's look at a good example...

101 - The sole purpose of government is to create problems

In 1968 Congress determined we had a serious problem of Spanish speaking children assimilating into society. So $7.5 million was allocated for the first federal bilingual education program. The temporary program's goal was to teach the kids English in a three year time period. The program has generally failed its roll as children are often left in bilingual classes for 5-8 years without proficiency in either language. If a program fails it should be discontinued, right?

103 - the only purpose of a bureaucracy is self-preservation

Next year’s federal budget allocates $750 million to bilingual education. California and Arizona voters vetoed bilingual ed in favor of English immersion programs and Colorado is soon to follow. But the teachers unions are very strong (political clout).

105 - A politician is only successful if re-elected

If you were running for office, would you want to buck such a large voting block?

106 - A dependent class must be established to ratify government programs

There are thousands of bilingual teaching and administrative jobs to protect here! And hundreds of thousands of students locked into the system. If you or I fail to learn to provide a viable service to society, we're let go or even face bankruptcy. But when a government program fails in its goals, throw more money at it! The worse the results, the more money Congress pours down the hole.

"There is nothing as permanent as a temporary government program" ...Milton Friedman

101: What other problems can be created to justify a centralized government?

- Global Warming
- Need for a "patients Bill of Rights"
- Need for campaign finance reform
- More gun control laws
- More endangered species
- Arsenic, MTBE, cholesteral, genetic engineering
- The coming energy crisis

This is the short list. Squads of politicians will try to convince us these and many other monumental problems can only be solved if we vote for them. Hey - guard your wallet!

Think about it...

SQUANDERING

"The desire of one man to live on the fruits of another's labor is the original sin of the world."...James O'Brien

OK, boys and girls, let's look at a few predictions we've made in the past that are sadly coming true today:

Politics 101: The sole purpose of government is to create problems

After squandering a $12 billion surplus and turning it into a $34.8 billion deficit (larger than the TOTAL deficits of the other 49 states), Gray Davis is proposing a 1 cent increase in the state sales tax, a $1.10 increase in the per pack cigarette tax and increases on the state income tax for the wealthiest among us. Vehicle registrations will double across the board as we will all "share the pain" of the state's deficit.

The Democrats claim to be the party of the poor, underdog, disenfranchised and diverse. If that is true, don't they have an obligation to KEEP as many poor and dependent on the state as possible to ensure their constituent base of increasing? Think about it.

103:The only purpose of a bureaucracy is self-preservation

106: A dependent class must be established to ratify government programs

All this talk of tax increases, but little talk of cutting back spending that has increased 37% during Davis' first term, buying him votes from the "disenfranchised." His latest ploy... trying to get the Indian tribes with casinos to "contribute" $1.5 billion to the state for the right to increase the number of slot machines in the casinos. Can you spell e x t o r t i o n, boys and girls? In 1998 Davis received over 5 million votes, in 2002... 3.1million. He beat Bill Simon 47% to 42%. 2002 saw a 44.5% turnout of registered voters, meaning that he was reelected with just 21% of registered voters putting him back in office! Some mandate!

The trick here, boys and girls is to get as many people as possible feeding at the government trough. Governments produce nothing and can only pay benefits to dependents by exrtacting taxes, fees and fines from the productive members of society. The parasites will always be loyal to the government, reinforcing its powers over us all. As we predicted 5 years ago, California is approaching a real crisis brought on by every socialist entity. Punishing the rich with progressive taxation that benefits the politically powerful will eventually devour itself as the money that creates jobs that the entire system relies on will leave the state for a better economic climate. No? Did you know that during the 1990s 2 million more people left the state than moved here from other states? But, of course, we gained more illegals (dependents). The weather is not enough to keep people here if such high taxes must be paid for the experience.

"You can only herd sheep that are frightened. You can only manage people you control. We win when we are not afraid of freedom. They cannot manage free people." ...Mason Weaver

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can exist only until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy." ....Alexander Tyler 1870ish

Next month we'll cover some environmental issues and myths. As always, think about it.

This just in... on 1/28/03 the state assembly voted 45-33 to TRIPLE vehicle registration fees! The extra fees will not go to improve our roads or anything associated with driving. The extra bucks will go toward the deficit. Is this a great state, or what?

SOCIALISM 101

OK, boys and girls, let's look at something that drives me nutz!

Socialism: government ownership or control over damn near everything.
Environmentalism: government control over the land.

Other than Cuba, China and North Korea, communism has pretty much run its course. So what happened to all those avowed Reds? They've found a home in the environmental movement. To be a socialist, two conditions must exist:

1. You must be clueless about human motivation.
2. A belief that socialism has failed everywhere it has been tried only because the wrong people were in control.

Generally (in the U.S.A.), if you bust your butt and prove your worth in the free market, you will be rewarded accordingly, improving your lifestyle. And everyone has a chance of succeeding to whatever lifestyle they set their goals for. In a socialistic society the achievers are taxed and regulated heavily, redistributing their wealth to the "less fortunate" masses, bringing that society down to the lowest common denominator. To succeed in a socialist society, one busts his butt within the bureaucracy where she can tax and regulate the achievers into submission. And the rules of the governed don't apply to the bureaucrats in charge. Cuz they know what's best for the governed!

Ask people on the street and the vast majority of them will claim we live in a democracy. We can thank the government mandatory school system for the average American's lack of civic knowledge/responsibility. We live in a republic! You vote for people to represent you in county, state and national elections. We pledge allegiance to the flag and the REPUBLIC for which it stands! Many in congress don't understand this republic thing, even though they're sworn to defend it!

Let's look at a little evolution. In 1998 the World Health Organization (WHO) determined that second hand smoke was not a health problem, but their report was spiked by state governments in the middle of lawsuits (extortion) against the evil tobacco companies. Well, guess what? After studying the health of tens of thousands of people married to smokers, U.S. researchers have found no significant extra risk of lung cancer or heart disease. It may take your breath away, sting your eyes and make your clothes smell, but it won't kill you! Instead of rejoicing over the good news, the research is being condemned by the powers that be. They have to protect their political correctness and junk science positions. They also will not ban cigarettes because they deliver billions in tax revenue to the states.

Junk science was also used for the global warming scare that led to the Koyoto Accords, whose main purpose is to regulate the achiever (U.S.A.) down to the lowest common denominator in the world order of things. Four years ago I warned that the tobacco tax increases would lead to other government-run-amok situations like fast food scares. Well... did anyone notice the talking suits on radio and TV last week claim that obesity (cause by McDonalds, etc.) is estimated to cost us $93 billion each year? The groundwork is being established!

We have evolved from a republic to a democratic socialist state thanks to the ruling class of bureaucrats that know what's best for us. There's little you can do except be vigilant. One small thing you can do is log on to www.recallgraydavis.com, download a petition, take it to work and get 5 signatures and mail it back. Isn't it about time to start protecting what little they leave you?

As always, think about it,
